In our new series, “Relentless”, we are reminded that God is a relentless seeker and pursuer of the lost. He extends His grace and mercy to us even though we don’t deserve it.

Part 1 – God’s Relentless Pursuit

God is a (relentless seeker and pursuer)

…the man and his wife heard the LORD God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the LORD God among the trees. Then the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?”
Genesis 3:8b-9 (NLT)

“The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war.”
2 Chronicles 16:9 (NLT)

For thus says the Lord GOD: “Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out.”
Ezekiel 34:11 (NKJV)

1“For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
Luke 19:10 (NLT)

But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way.
John 4:23 (NLT)

Luke 15 – The Lost Sheep – The Lost Coin – The Lost Sons

God’s Pattern of Pursuing

(Lost) – (Seeks) – (Finds) – (Celebrates)

Son # 1 – “Bad Son” – Prodigal
I want it (my way)!
I don’t care (who gets hurt)!
I want it (now)!

Son # 2 – “Good Son”
You (owe me)!
That’s (not fair)!
Everything’s a scorecard.

Which lost son are you more like??

Four Truths about God’s Relentless Love
1. God never (gives up on people).

Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world… All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature …
But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)
Ephesians 2:1-5 (NLT)

2. God doesn’t give us (what we deserve – Mercy).

“But God is so rich in mercy…” v. 4

3. God does give us (what we don’t deserve – Grace).

That even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life… God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
Ephesians 2:5,8 (NLT)

4. God never (quits pursuing you).

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
Philippians 1:6 (NLT)
