Peace in the pandemic, Psalm 23 – Part 5

Our struggles are not against flesh and blood, but against…the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Through our struggles, the Lord prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemies. In part 5 of “Peace in the Pandemic,”  we will learn that just as a shepherd makes preparation to ensure the safety of his flock from the enemies of its environment, so the Lord prepares His people to keep them safe from their spiritual enemies.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Psalm 23:5NKJV

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 NASB

The Shepherd brings Peace…

1.  (By preparing the pasture)

      > (poisonous plants)==(temptations)

      > (predators)==(enemies)

Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 NASB

2.  (By preparing the water)

     > (debris)==(worries and cares)

     > (deterioration)==(subtle influences)

Others are like seed sown among thorns; these are the ones who hear the word, but the worries of this age, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. Mark 4:18-19 CSB

3.  (By preparing the flock)

     > (insects)==(irritations)

     > (illness)==(contamination of sin)

                * (thought life)

                * (unforgiveness)

For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15 NASB

Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered Him punished by God, stricken by Him, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:4-6 NIV
