Redeeming the Time, Ephesians 5 – Part 3

…for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. For this reason it says,

“Awake, sleeper,

And arise from the dead,

And Christ will shine on you.”

Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil.  So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.  Ephesians 5:12-17 NASB

Walk in Wisdom

Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and don’t reject your mother’s teaching, for they will be a garland of favor on your head and pendants around your neck. Proverbs 1:8-9 CSB

5 Steps to Take

1. (Prevent sin, don’t promote sin)

My Son, if sinners entice you, don’t be persuaded.

If they say—“Come with us!  Let’s set an ambush and kill someone. Let’s attack some innocent person just for fun!…Throw in your lot with us, and we’ll all share the loot.”…

My son, don’t travel that road with them or set foot on their path.

Proverbs 1:10-11; 14-15 CSB

2. (Reprove sin, don’t relish in sin)

Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to His disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Luke 5:29-32 NIV

3.  Live carefully not carelessly)

Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.  Proverbs 4:26-27 NIV

4. (Make the most of every moment)

A vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”  When he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.  Acts 16:9-10 NASB

5. (Discover and Fulfill God’s Will)

…trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.  Ephesians 5:10 NASB
