Life Changing is an Understatement
Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. Matthew 4:18-20 NASB
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. Matthew 28:19-20 NASB
A Disciple is one who:
1.(Knows and follows Christ) – “Follow me …”
2.(Is being changed by Christ) – “… and I will make you …”
3.(Joins the mission of Christ) – “…fishers of men.”
It is He who saved us and chose us for His holy work, not because we deserved it but because it was His plan long ago …” 2 Timothy 1:9 (LB)
What is God Calling Me To?
1. Call to (follow Christ not self)
And he [Jesus] said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23 ESV
How can I know if I’m following?
(Am I developing new priorities?)
As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do. 1 Peter 1:14-15 NIV
2. Call to (change into who God made me to be)
Examine me, O LORD, and try me; Test my mind and my heart. Psalm 26:2 NASB
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
How can I know if I’m changing?
(Is the fruit of God’s Spirit becoming more evident in my life?)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 NASB
3. Call to (give up my mission for God’s mission)
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” Galatians 2:20 NASB
How can I know if I’m on mission with God?
(Am I taking up Christ‘s mission to make disciples?)
You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. 2 Timothy 2:2 NLT
Bottom Line: God’s not looking for perfect followers but he is looking for people who will follow, be changed and wholeheartedly pursue their God given mission to make disciples!!
