No one is immune to suffering, yet when troubles arise and our hearts become overwhelmed and without strength, we cry out to God to lead us to a safe and secure place.  Pastor Mike begins a new sermon series called, “Overwhelmed: When Difficulty Disrupts” and will walk us through 5 beliefs to embrace during our time of suffering.

Overwhelmed: When Difficulty Disrupts

From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed… Psalm 61:2a NKJV

…for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me—to keep me from exalting myself!  Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.”  Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:7b-10 NASB

5 Beliefs to Embrace

(No one is immune to suffering).

There once was a man named Job who lived in the land of Uz. He was blameless—a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil. Job 1:1 NLT

(God balances blessings with burdens).

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love. Romans 5:3-5 NLT

(God suffers for me and with me).

He was despised and forsaken of men. A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief… Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrow He carried… Isaiah 53:3a; 4a NASB

This I know, that God is for me. Psalm 56:9b NASB

(God’s strength is revealed in weakness).

And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last. And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. When the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!” Mark 15:37-39 NASB

…lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:2b NKJV
